Skyline and Olympus class of 2021: graduation looks ‘more normal’ this year

This year’s graduation plans for Olympus and Skyline will look more like traditional, pre-COVID-19 celebrations. The start of the pandemic last year closed schools and caught everyone by surprise. Seniors missed activities the last quarter of school, and administrators got creative with graduation parades and socially-distanced celebrations.

Though flexibility is still the name of the game, Olympus was able to bring back prom this spring. The school also plans to hold the Senior Cotillion and Senior Night after graduation.

Olympus High’s commencement is scheduled for Thursday, Jun. 3 at 4 p.m. at Rio Tinto Stadium in Sandy. With plenty of space, there’s no limit on the number of guests who can attend. Office staff said the situation can always change and they’ll keep students informed of temperature checks or mask requirements.

Skyline’s commencement is also scheduled for Thursday, Jun. 3 at Rio Tinto Stadium in Sandy at 7 p.m.

“This will allow students and their families to attend in an open air venue for safety. We’re working out other specifics. Right now testing isn’t required, but masks are required,” said Mitchell Nerdin, Skyline High School’s principal.
